How to configure ODBC DSNs on Microsoft Windows?

Description

Connectivity issues with the Basis/OnGuard database commonly occur when the ODBC data source is not configured correctly. Verifying the ODBC connection helps ensure proper communication between the system and the database.

Resolution

Confirm that the ODBC data source used to connect to the OnGuard database is configured correctly by following the steps below based on your Windows operating system.

For 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows:

1. Open Data Sources (ODBC) from Windows Administrative Tools.
2. Select the System DSN tab.
3. Select the DSN used to connect to the OnGuard database.*
4. Click Configure.
5. Verify the correct database server is selected, then click Next.
6. Confirm the authentication method and credentials, then click Next.
7. Ensure Change the default database to is checked and the OnGuard database is selected.
8. Click Finish.
9. Click Test Data Source and confirm a successful connection.
10. Click OK to close all dialogs.

For 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows:

1. From the Windows search bar, enter C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe and press Enter.
2. Select the System DSN tab.
3. Select the DSN used to connect to the OnGuard database.*
4. Click Configure.
5. Verify the correct database server is selected, then click Next.
6. Confirm the authentication method and credentials, then click Next.
7. Ensure Change the default database to is checked and the OnGuard database is selected.
8. Click Finish.
9. Click Test Data Source and confirm a successful connection.
10. Click OK to close all dialogs.
