Will my Wi-Q Controller reconnect if it goes offline?

Answer

Wireless controllers automatically reconnect to a nearby portal gateway if they go offline, unless locked to a specific portal. If the portal remains unavailable, the controller enters a battery-saving beacon cycle. The beacon intervals are as follows:

  • 60 seconds
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 20 minutes
  • 25 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 40 minutes
  • 50 minutes
  • 60 minutes
  • 2 hours
  • 4 hours
  • 8 hours
  • 16 hours
  • 24 hours

After completing the cycle, the reader beacons once every 24 hours until it reconnects to a portal gateway.

To force the reader to reconnect, perform an anti-tamper: 

  1. Swipe a card without access repeatedly until the reader locks
  2. Wait 60 seconds, then swipe the card again. 
  3. Confirm the portal is online and in the segment. On Wi-Q controllers, blue lights indicate the reader is attempting to communicate with the portal gateway. 

A soft reset can also wake the controller: 

  1. Unplug the power or battery
  2.  Reconnect it to reboot the controller.
