Q: Do I need a cell phone signal or internet connection in order to use the app to access a core or reader?
A: No internet connection or cell phone signal is required to use the app to access a door. Your access rights are stored locally (securely and encrypted) on the mobile application and are available for use offline.
Q: How are my access rights updated?
A: If your access rights are updated (for example, you'd be given access to a new area) these will be pushed to your phone when it is connected to the internet. If you are offline you will receive your updates when you are reconnected.
Q: Does this app use my data?
A: Yes - the mobile application will use a small amount of data when access rights are updated or audits are sent back to the system. Something on the order of a few MB/month normally. You can configure through your phone's settings to restrict the app to only use data when connected to Wi-Fi.
Q: Where is the mobile app available?
A: The app is publicly available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It is free to download. From there you will need to register your device into the system or systems you have access rights to. This information should be provide by your local system administrator.
Q: The app uses Bluetooth to communicate - will this drain my battery?
A: Compatible phones are equipped with the Bluetooth Low Energy standard which consumes a minimum amount of battery to perform the communication between the phone and the Switch device. You should not notice any measurable change in your daily phone battery life.
Q: The app uses Bluetooth to communicate - what if I'm connected to another Bluetooth device like headphones or speakers?
A: This is perfectly fine. The app should still function with other Bluetooth devices connected to the same phone.
Q: What data is the app collecting / sharing about me or my usage?
A: The app does not know your identity
Q:When the app requests a PIN to grant access, I entered my phone PIN, but it didn't grant access. Why?
A: The PIN that is requested for access is the PIN that was setup by your security administrator. If you don't remember this PIN, please see your security administrator to change your PIN.
Q: If I get a new phone, will my app still work when I copy it to the new phone?
A: Because the app and credential are tied to the specific phone for security reasons, you will need to request a new registration token from the security admin to activate the Switch App on your new phone.
Q: If I have credentials for two different sites, can I use them in the same app?
A: Yes. When you clam the second credential, it will add the site to your list of keys.
Q: Can I claim multiple registration tokens from the same site on my app?
A: No, you can only claim credentials from different sites onto the app. You may see an error if trying to add multiple credentials for the same site.
Q: Will my phone know which site I am trying to access?
A: If you have background mode enabled yes; otherwise, you will need to select the appropriate key in the mobile app.
Q: Why won't my Xiaomi phone work with Switch Tech?
A: Many international phones use a custom Operating System. (not Android or iOS). Switch Mobile App only supports Android and iOS
Q: What version of Andriod OS is supported?
A: Android OS versions 11, 12, and 13
Q: What version of iOS is supported?
A: iOS 12.0 and later.
Q: Does the Core need to have the Set Time function run from the Admin tab in the app each time the battery is changed?
A: When a battery is removed for a change the RTC, Real Time Clock, inside the core will maintain itself for approximately 1 minute before full discharge. The Admin User may need to reset the RTC via the app by running the Set Time command if they take longer than approximately 1 minute to execute the battery change.
