Apex 2000 MLR – Frequently Asked Questions
This section provides answers to common questions about the PHI Apex 2000 series panic hardware with MLR, motorized latch retraction option, including specifications, applications, certifications, and ordering information.
What is MLR? |
|
In what applications is MLR primarily used? |
|
MLR devices are ideal for access-controlled doors where operational noise must be minimized, such as:
They are also commonly used with automatic door operators, enabling the latch to retract so the operator can open the door. |
What certifications does the MLR option adhere to? |
| MLR devices are UL Listed Panic & Fire, UL 305, UL 10C, ANSI/BHMA 156.3 Grade 1, and FVSU/FVSU7. |
What is the difference between MLR (Motorized Latch Retraction) and ELR (Electric Latch Retraction) devices? |
| MLR devices are quieter and draw less current than ELR devices. This is because MLR uses a motor instead of a solenoid (found in ELR). Additionally, ELR retracts only the latch, while MLR retracts both the latch and the push bar. |
Which exit devices are compatible with MLR? |
| MLR can be ordered with any PRECISION APEX 2000 exit device. |
How do I order MLR with an APEX 2000 exit device? |
| MLR is a prefix option in the APEX 2000 nomenclature. Example: 3RO MLR 2103 630
|
Can I retrofit an existing APEX 2000 standard or ELR device with MLR? |
| Yes. A retrofit kit (part number: MLR-K) is available, along with a compatible power supply. Note that motorized latch retraction is not compatible with mechanical dogging. |
What are the power requirements for the MLR? |
| 24 Volts DC @ 1 Amp, with a holding current of 250 mA. |
Do you offer a power supply? |
|
Yes. Two options are available:
|
Do we have to use your power supply? |
| No. Any 24V DC filtered and regulated power supply can operate the MLR device. |
Does MLR require calibration for new or retrofit installations? |
| Yes. Refer to the installation instructions for calibration details. |
Does MLR ship with quick connect? |
| Yes, MLR includes the quick connect option as standard. |
Once engaged, how long does the latch stay retracted? |
| The latch can stay retracted continuously or intermittently. Timing is controlled via the PRECISION power supply settings or other switch input options. |
| How many wires does the MLR require? |
| MLR requires 2 power wires and 2 optional switch feedback wires. The feedback wires provide positive confirmation of latch retraction when used with RPSMLR2 or RPSMLR2BB power supplies. |
What are the wire gauge requirements for the varying distances between the exit device and the power source? |
The wire gauge requirements are based upon the following distances: |
What door widths is the MLR option compatible with? |
The MLR option can accommodate the following door widths: |
What is the lead time for an APEX 2000 MLR device? |
Less than 2 weeks on average. |
What warranty does the MLR option have? |
1-year electrical warranty. |
